COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a Franklin man early Sunday morning after he was accused of crashing into another vehicle after he was seen driving the wrong way on U.S. 31.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., CPD officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of U.S. 31 in regards to the crash. Witnesses reported that a 2011 Chevy passenger car driven by Levi C. Griffith, 27, of Franklin, was seen traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. 31 prior to the crash, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Two occupants in the other vehicle involved in the crash were transported to Columbus Regional Hospital with minor injuries, Harris said.

Officers administered several field sobriety tests to Griffith and he later provided a portable breath sample of .225%, nearly three times the legal limit. Griffith was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical clearance and a blood draw as a part of the investigation, Harris said.

After the blood draw was complete, Griffith was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was held on preliminary charges of two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
