COLUMBUS, INDIANA
Alberta T. Jones Phillips, 92, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Silver Oaks Health Campus.
Mrs. Phillips was born September 7, 1927, in Anderson, South Carolina, and was raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She was the loving daughter of Clem Jones Sr. and Allie Mae Lenton Jones.
On September 3, 1969, Alberta married Robert A. Phillips; he preceded her in death July 17, 1986.
In 1951, Mrs. Phillips earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from West Virginia State University and in 1955, she received her master’s degree in social work form Atlanta University, now called Atlanta Clark University.
Mrs. Philips was the Director of Social Services at the former Muscatatuck State Hospital, she retired after 50 years of service.
She enjoyed antiquing and a good yard sale and always enjoyed and looked forward to a good family get together.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Roxanne (Cleveland) Stallworth and Cathy Phillips both of Columbus; grandchildren, Danielle (Kevin) Wynn of Columbus, Jasmine (Tyshun) Allen of Greenwood, Kyle Inskeep of Cincinnati, Ohio, James Robert Wynn of Columbus and Eric Wynn of Columbus; niece, Ronna Jones of Dallas, Texas; and nephew, Matthew Jones of Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clem; and brothers, Clem Jones Jr. and Matthew Jones Sr.
A private graveside service will be held in Section 44 at Garland Brook Cemetery; the Reverend Larry F. Rowe will officiate. There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Phillips will be laid to rest next to her husband following the service.
