A popular image for those who recognize that the U.S. response to COVID-19 is way overblown is that of lemmings rushing off cliffs into the ocean.
To address that myth, the editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica (EB) have written an article which documents that it was a deliberate fraud which gave us that image.
According to EB, in a film entitled "White Wilderness," the "filmmakers, eager for dramatic footage, staged a lemming death plunge, pushing dozens of lemmings off a cliff while cameras were rolling. The images — shocking at the time for what they seemed to show about the cruelty of nature and shocking now for what they actually show about the cruelty of humans — convinced several generations of moviegoers that these little rodents do, in fact, possess a bizarre instinct to destroy themselves."
The article contains revealing parallels to the coronavirus issues we face today. From the fraud embodied in executive orders, which violate the Indiana and U.S. constitutions (see Andrew Horning’s excellent article in the Aug. 5 issue of the The Republic), to the cruelty of humans as hospitals refuse to allow family contact.
What we’ve seen this year is the fact that our elected and appointed officials and experts possess a bizarre instinct to destroy our economy for something no more serious than the flu. Fear, and herd response, are well-documented as able to override common sense – resulting in that allegedly lemming-like behavior, and giving power to false narratives.
It’s the responsibility of those whose common sense is still intact to refuse that power transfer, whether in public health, politics, or citizenship. Are you doing your part?
