Pet Palooza adoption event begins today

Staff Report

City of Columbus Animal Care Services and Bartholomew County Humane Society, along with Animal Outreach of Shelby County and Brown County Humane Society, are partnering to get their adoptable dogs, cats and kittens out of the shelters and into their forever homes.

The Pet Palooza multi-agency adoption event will begin Sunday and continue through Aug. 29, depending on partnering agency’s hours. This year’s Palooza event, due to COVID-19 restrictions, will be a virtual event with interested adopters viewing animals online, following the link the participating agency’s website, filling out an application, and making an appointment to finish the adoption. No one will be admitted without an approved application and appointment.

Dogs and cats will have a reduced adoption fee of $50, which includes spaying or neutering, up-to-date on shots (as age appropriate) and microchipping prior to adoption.

Each individual organization will have its own application process. Interested adopters who rent their homes are encouraged to bring renter’s agreements or contracts to indicate they are allowed pets, if a landlord is unable to be contacted.

Potential adopters are asked to please bring a cat carrier with them to their adoption appointment, as cardboard cat carriers may be limited.
