State GOP to host watch party for Pence’s acceptance speech of nomination as VP

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Indiana Republican Party will host a watch party Wednesday for Vice President Mike Pence’s speech during the Republican National Convention.

The watch party will be held at 5:30 p.m. at YES Cinema, 328 Jackson St. Pence, who is a Columbus native, is expected to speak from Fort McHenry in Baltimore at around 8:30 p.m. and make the case for why he believes President Donald Trump deserves another four years in the White House.

Admission is free, and the theater will follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which includes requiring those in attendance to wear masks and practice social distancing, said Barb Hackman, chair of the Bartholomew County Republican Party. There is space for 79 people inside the theater. Indiana GOP chairman Kyle Hupfer is expected to attend the watch party here in Columbus.

“The Indiana GOP had reached out and they were wanting to have watch parties for the vice president’s speech throughout the state,” Hackman said. “With us being (Pence’s) hometown, they wanted to make sure that it was a main event for them.”
