COLUMBUS, Ind. — Beginning Monday, all BCSC students will receive free meals for breakfast and lunch regardless of financial status. This is thanks to a federal extension of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) summer meal program.  The change will occur until Dece. 31, or federal funds dedicated are depleted, whichever comes first.

The USDA recently announced that it would allow schools to serve free meals to all students through the end of 2020. This effort will help ensure all BCSC students will have access to nutritious food as the country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. The change applies to all BCSC students, regardless if they are enrolled in person or online.

Because of this opportunity, BCSC students that normally pay (reduced fee or full price) will also be credited funds on their student meal account backdating to Sept. 1, 2020.

When students go through the cafeteria lines to receive their meals, students will choose their meal options the same as before. The only difference will be that they will not be charged unless the student is purchasing additional items outside of the meal being offered or if they are going through the line a second time.

For additional questions, BCSC asks that families speak to their specific school cafeteria.
