North sweeps Classic
NASHVILLE — Columbus North’s top-ranked boys and third-ranked girls swept a loaded field at Saturday’s Brown County Eagle Classic, bringing home championships in both Elite Division races.
The Bull Dog boys, despite competing without injured top runner Matt Newell, scored 51 points to 63 for No. 4 Brebeuf Jesuit and 65 for No. 2 Carmel. The North girls edged No. 1 Carmel 82-85.
Mackenzie Barnett led the Bull Dog girls with a third-place finish in 18 minutes 18.0 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Lily Baker finished 17th in 19:03.3, while Jessica Meza was 17th (19:06.0), Brianna Newell 19th (19:07.4), Abby Jacobi 29th (19:28.5), Katherine Rumsey 31st (19:33.8), Ellen White 31st (19:36.1), Julie Klaus 33rd (19:37.0) Sydney Morlok 34th (19:39.0) and Madisyn Perry 54th (20:12.5).
For the North boys, Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff finished fourth in 15:40.4. Andy Stohr took eighth in 15:42.7, while Austin Pulkowski was 15th (15:57.2), Evan Carr 16th (15:57.7), Collin Pruitt 25th (16:11.5), Will Kiel 31st (16:22.2), Sam Hobbeheydar 48th (16:36.6), Clayton Guthrie 56th (16:45.2), Kellen Hottell 59th (16:46.3) and Will Russell 64th (16:52.7).
Jennings County finished 10th in the Boys Elite race with 259 points. Gavin Hendrix led the Panthers in 35th (16:26.7), while Lane Elsner was 39th (16:30.7), Brenden Baker 53rd (16:44.3), Eli Wahlman 87th (17:27.5) and Ian Campbell 91st (17:36.1).
Jennings finished 14th with 322 points in the Girls AA race, which was won by Pike with 51 points. Halle Franks led the Panthers with a 23rd-place finish in 20:55.0, while Elizabeth Evans was 37th (21:22.4), Liz Wahlman 73rd (22:31.2), Grace Gambrel 87th (23:12.4) and Sarah Poole 129th (25:31.6).
Abby Fleetwood won the Girls Class A race in 19:24.1 to lead the Brown County girls to a third-place team finish with 69 points behind Barr-Reeve (52) and Indian Creek (60). Hadley Gradolf took fourth in 20:07.1, while Emelia Koester was 11th (21:02.3), Emma DeBord 25th (22:07.4) and Madalyn Purlee 37th (22:58.5).
The Brown County boys scored 122 points to finish third in Class A behind Borden (72) and Austin (114). Chase Austin led the Eagles with a second-place finish in 16:43.4, while Cord Smith was 24th (18:22.6), Blake Wagler 25th (18:23.9), Rhett Silbaugh 36th (18:49.6) and Waylon Patrick 39th (19:03.5).
East girls take third
INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus East finished third in the Girls White race and sixth in the Boys White Race in Saturday’s Ben Davis Invitational.
The Olympian girls scored 51 points to finish behind North Central (40) and Western Boone (42). The East boys scored 164 points in a meet won by Greenfield-Central with 50.
Chloe Krueger led the Olympian girls with a second-place finish in 20:58.66. Laurel Knight took sixth in 21:57.69, while Elizabeth Stevens was 10th (22:24.35), Olivia Shoaf 13th (22:54.08) and Jordan Spurgeon 20th (23:38.34).
Mason Curry finished 25th in 20:02.63 to lead the East boys. Tyler Hertle took 32nd in 21:06.77, while Derek Patchett was 34th (21:11.58), Casey Bartholomew 36th (21:28.22) and Cayden Lynott 37th (21:28.50).
Hauser boys eighth
WHITELAND — Hauser’s boys finished eighth and the girls 10th in Saturday’s Whiteland Invitational.
The Jets scored 223 points in the boys race, which was won by Whiteland with 26. Hauser’s girls scored 251 points in a meet won by New Palestine with 30.
Ryan Ault led the Jet boys with a ninth-place finish in 17:54.39. Alex Bower took 34th in 19:24.62, while Colin Kistler was 45th (20:02.92), Cameron Toole 63rd (21:14.39) and Austin Cowan 75th (24:13.79).
Amanda Steward finished 46th in 25:38.24 to lead the Hauser girls. Reiss Kistler took 51st in 26:56.57, while Tammy Essex was 57th (27:41.43), Kaitlynn Everroad 58th (27:25.18) and Addison Jones 59th (27:29.90).

North wins own invite
Co-No. 11 Columbus North rolled to the title in its own invitational on Saturday, beating Batesville and Providence by 5-0 scores.
Against Batesville, Nathan Lin beat Lleyton Ratcliffe 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Matthew Liu downed Cale Rame 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Noah Abfall blanked Jaden Smith 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Anvay Antram and Amrit Kar topped Max Giesting and Sam Voegele 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Luke Enneking and Eric Stavnheim defeated Jackson Tracy and Hank Ritter 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
North (8-1) dropped only four games against Providence. Lin blanked Alex Kemp 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Liu beat Alex Barnett at No. 2 singles and Joseph Kloepfer downed Zach Applewhite at No. 3 singles by 6-0, 6-1 scores. Atram and Kar topped Landon Kruer and Jake Rodski 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Enneking and Jacob Shinkle blanked Jacob Kaiser and Jacob Harbeson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
East finishes fourth
SHELBYVILLE — Columbus East went 0-3 in Saturday’s Shelbyville Invitational, falling to Seymour 3-2, No. 18 Westfield 5-0 and Shelbyville 3-2.
Daniel Murphy at No. 2 singles and Emmit Romine at No. 3 singles won matches against Seymour. Pranav Kumar at No. 1 singles and Murphy at No. 2 singles won against Shelbyville.

East fourth in HHC
FLOYDS KNOBS — Columbus East finished fourth in Saturday’s Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament at Valley View. Floyd Central won with a 320 to 323 for Bedford North Lawrence, 331 for New Albany and 363 for the Olympians.
Harley Gant and Peyton Meier each shot 86 to lead East. Carter Gant carded a 95, Katie Hong added a 96 and Cristen Martinez had a 99.
Jennings County had only three golfers, one fewer than the number needed to score as a team. Sophia Curry led the Panthers with an 84, while Alexis Carson added a 93 and Emma Kirchner had a 134.
Lancer wins medalist
EDINBURGH — Morgan Calhoun won medalist honors with a 95 Saturday to lead Edinburgh to a second-place finish in the Mid-Hoosier Conference Tournament.
Southwestern (Shelby) won with a 430 at Timbergate, followed by the Lancers at 466, North Decatur at 485 and Morristown at 524. South Decatur was in quarantine and unable to play.
Annelise Lollar carded a 103 for Edinburgh. Izzy Richardson added a 133, Jillian Turner shot 135 and Serenity Smith had a 136.

Jets survive scare
HOPE — Hauser had to go the distance in its Mid-Indiana Conference opener on Friday in pulling out a 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20, 15-13 win against Waldron.
Hannah Johnson pounded 25 kills, Aunaka Wasil recorded 40 assists, Andie Clark notched 16 digs and Adriana Musillami served seven aces to lead the Jets (7-0, 1-0).
Also for Hauser, Wasil and Sophia Musillami each tallied five kills, and Kyra Meister and Charlie Clark each had 11 digs. Andie Clark served two aces, and Marnie Schwartzkopf added one ace.
Arrows sweep Eagles
SULLIVAN — Brown County came close in the second set Saturday, but dropped a 25-17, 25-22, 25-17 Western Indiana Conference decision at Sullivan.
Londyn Koester led the Eagles (6-6, 1-3) with 11 digs and three aces. Lauren Akles pounded seven kills, Abigail Bowman recorded 16 assists and Abigail Watson had two solo and one assist block.
Also for Brown County, Milly Patrick notched five kills, and Watson added four kills. Bowman served two aces.
Trinity wins invite
BEDFORD — Class A No. 1 Trinity Lutheran beat Martinsville 25-16, 25-23 and Terre Haute South 25-14, 25-23 in pool play and downed Evansville Mater Dei 25-20, 21-25, 15-10 in the championship match Saturday to win the Bedford North Lawrence Invitational.
Kamzi Gross led the Cougars (15-3) with 29 digs and seven aces. Sydney Jaynes pounded 37 kills, and Bailey Reynolds recorded 81 assists.
Also for Trinity, Bailey Tabeling notched 20 kills, while Hoffman had 17 kills and Stella Kleffman added 13 kills and 22 digs. Elly Carter tallied 22 digs, Reynolds had 10 digs and Ruthie Bingham served three aces.
BOYS SOCCER
Jets shut out Austin
HOPE — Hauser got goals from five different players Saturday in a 5-0 win against Austin.
Zach Weichman, Ben Essex, Chase Martoccia, Justice Gilliland and Carter Scott scored for the Jets (3-4-2). Carlos Cuevas had two assists, and Chase Martoccia added one assist.
Carter Scott recorded one save.
Columbus Christian falls
Ethan Nickerson scored a pair of goals Saturday, but Columbus Christian fell to King’s Academy 7-2
Grant Young and Joel Flint had assists for the Crusaders (1-4-1), who were outshot 13-4. Garrett Spurgeon posted six saves.
Devils blank Panthers
JEFFERSONVILLE — Jennings County had its hands full with Jeffersonville Saturday in an 11-0 HHC loss.
The Panthers fell to 4-5-1 overall and 0-3 in the HHC.
Stars top Trinity
SEYMOUR — Bedford North Lawrence jumped out to a 6-0 halftime lead and went on to hand Trinity Lutheran a 7-1 defeat on Saturday.
Kash Siefker scored the goal for the Cougars (1-4), who were outshot 29-5. Peyton Pollert recorded 22 saves.
North falls to Carmel
Class 3A No. 7 Carmel scored three times in the final 10 minutes of the first half Friday night in posting a 3-0 win at Columbus North.
The Greyhounds outshot the Bull Dogs 21-9, putting 12 shots on goal to two for North (3-2-4). Colvin Iorio recorded nine saves.

Bulldogs blank Panthers
NORTH VERNON — New Albany scored twice in the first half and three times in the second half Saturday in handing Jennings County a 5-0 defeat.
The Bulldogs outshot the Panthers (5-5, 1-4) 12-6. Grace Ramey played the first half in goal and posted two saves. Cheyeanna Leslie recorded one save, and Tori Lee added two saves in the second half.
Sullivan stops Eagles
SULLIVAN — Brown County still is looking for its first win following a 6-0 loss Saturday at Sullivan.
The Arrows outshot the Eagles (0-5, 0-4) 25-11.
Trinity wins again
CORYDON — Trinity Lutheran won for the third consecutive time, a 3-0 victory at Corydon Central on Saturday.
Sarah Lemming, Emma Myers and Kaliene Cockerham scored goals for the Cougars (3-1). Flossie Cooper had two assists, and Kayla Goecker added one asssit.
Genesis Munoz recorded 13 saves.

Lancers rout Pacers
EDINBURGH — Riley Palmeter threw seven touchdown passes Saturday night to lead Edinburgh to its first win of the season, a 49-14 rout of Switzerland County.
Palmeter threw three scoring passes to Caleb Dewey and two to Austin Streeval. Landon Burton and Jarrett Turner each caught one touchdown pass.
Cade Anderson kicked a 20-yard field goal to give the Lancers (1-3) a 21-7 halftime lead. Edinburgh also had a safety in the second half when the Pacers were called for intentional grounding in the end zone.
Owls topple Panthers
SEYMOUR — Jennings County was within 19-7 midway through the second quarter Friday, but Seymour pulled away for a 47-7 Hoosier Hills Conference victory.
Peyton Hayden scored on a 3-yard run for the Panthers (0-4, 0-2), who trailed 26-7 at halftime.
Michael Haines completed 14 of 30 passes for 118 yards and carried six times for 46 yards, and Hayden ran 20 times for 40 yards. Dakota Beesley led the Jennings defense with 10 tackles.
