Ex-Brown County resident develops mushroom locater app

Andrew Gustin

A former Brown County resident can now help mushroom hunters find edible treats on nearby public lands.

Andrew Gustin, founder of digital cartography firm GeoPOI LLC in St. Paul, Minnesota, has developed a series of smartphone apps "that will greatly increase your chances to rapidly locate the species that you desire."

The apps, available for both Apple and Android products, cover 10 Midwestern states including Indiana and two northeastern states, and feature mushroom identification and association charts, interactive maps of public lands indicating dominant tree species, and warnings of look-alike mushrooms to avoid.

Gustin is a wilderness enthusiast certified in mushroom foraging by the Minnesota Mycological Society and is a master naturalist.

The Indiana Mushroom Forager Map app, is the App Store for iPhone and in Google Play for Android. It’s also available at mushrooms.geopoi.us.
