The deadline for middle and high school students to enter the 2020 Congressional App Challenge is just over a month away.
“The Congressional App Challenge helps students express their innovative minds,” said Rep. Greg Pence in an official statement. “This is the most prestigious challenge in student computer science and I can’t wait to see who participates. The deadline to submit is Oct. 19. I encourage all young Hoosier innovators to participate and to submit their app soon!”
These district challenges were launched by the House of Representatives in 2016. Over the past four years, more than 14,000 students across 48 states have submitted apps to these competitions.
According to the challenge website, congressmen from participating districts encourage students in their area to create and submit apps every year. Each Congressional App Challenge is district-specific, and winners are publicly recognized by their congressmen.
The website also states, “Winning apps are eligible to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building and featured on the House of Representatives’ website, house.gov.” Other prizes may also be available.
In 2019, two Columbus North High School students, Rishi Rao and Akshat Verma, won the Indiana sixth district’s challenge with their app SchoolPath.
