Yoga class kicks off 40K4sucasa

Esmerelda Gonzalez’s yoga class, livestreamed at 7 p.m. today on the Facebook page for Su Casa Columbus, will kick off the month-long online fundraiser 40K4sucasa for the nonprofit Su Casa Columbus.

The event is one of many online events, from cooking to concerts, planned during the Hispanic Heritage Month — Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 — that celebrates the Latinx culture found in Bartholomew County and south central Indiana.

Celebrating and educating the community about the Latinx culture represents a portion of the organization’s mission. In the first three months of the COVID-19 shutdown, the agency served 1,800 people with food, rent, and utility assistance. That is 150% more than the number of people the agency would normally serve in an entire year, according to the agency website.

Su Casa’s current goal is to help client families overcome challenges, and improve their lives for the long term by focusing on budgeting, education, stability, and health.
