This letter is in response to an Associated Press article published in the Sept. 5 issue of The Republic, which was followed up by an article written by John Krull in the Opinion section of the Sept. 10 newspaper.
First of all, I believe in freedom of the press as documented in the U.S. Constitution. But I believe in the freedom of a responsible press.
The Atlantic reported that President Trump referred to American soldiers killed or captured as "suckers and losers." I do not know President Trump personally, but I do know him intuitively and he would never say that about anyone in the American military — living, deceased or captured. He has done more for the American fighting men and women than the previous administration.
It is interesting that The Atlantic article refers to anonymous sources.
Here we go again, another made up article about the president printed in the press. The article is then refferred to by Joe Biden in which he continually refers to it as "if it is true" and then launches into how the president is unfit to be president.
This is irresponsible. Perhaps he should verify the facts before he makes these kinds of allegations. Further irresponsibility is demonstrated by the Krull column. Here he is a professor of journalism at Franklin College. Maybe he should verify the sources before he echoes the fictional article printed in The Atlantic.
