Fright nights: Pandemic fails to scare away Halloween activities, events

The COVID-19 pandemic has failed to scare away a variety of Halloween activities that generally draw a monster response from the public.

So if you and your family seek chills for sheer fun in the area, you can find a way to enjoy the season in whatever way the spirits move you — providing you can outrun any zombies the attractions throw at you, of course.

Faster than you can say “Boo!” here are just a few options that shed light on the dark possibilities. Keep in mind that some may require a mask (not of the Halloween kind).

The Haunting, 7060 W. County Road 200N in Columbus. 4 to 6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 30 and also Oct. 31 are non-scary, child-friendly activities; 8 to 11 p.m. constitutes “scare time.” A range of Halloween-oriented offerings, from a descending, makeshift mine shaft to a headless horseman. When Darkness Falls Haunted Trail, CERAland Park, 3989 S. County Road 525E in Columbus, 8 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 31. Fear Fair, 800A Avenue E at Freeman Field in Seymour. Fridays and Saturdays 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Sundays 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 2 through Nov. 7. Organizers call their 50,000 square feet. of creep “the most award-winning haunted house in Indiana.” Tickets: $25 to $35, available at fearfair.com/tickets

Hanna Haunted Acres, 7323 E. Hanna Ave. in Indianapolis, today through Oct. 31 (except for Oct. 5 and 12). Hours are 7 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays and 7 to 10 p.m. other days. Hanna Haunted Acres features its signature haunted hayride, blood barn, freak show, and more attractions. General admission: $23.95 to $31.95.

Indy Scream Park, 5211 S. New Columbus Road in Anderson, 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 31. Six attractions: Backwoods; Mutation; Zombieland: Unchained Kilgore’s 3D Circus; Nightmare Factory: Blackout; and the newest addition of Zombie Paintball Assault. Tickets: $23.95 to $35.95.
