East blanks Panthers
Six different players scored goals Wednesday, and Columbus East kept its Hoosier Hills Conference title hopes alive with a 6-0 senior night win against Jennings County.
Alejandro Saldivar, Kevin Galindo Sanchez, Chris Quisenberry, Branson Young, Ben Sylva, Dathan Wolf scored for the Olympians (5-2-7, 4-0-2). Brody Copas, Ben Romig, Sladivar, Quisenberry and Galindo Sanchez had assists.
East the Panthers (4-9-2, 0-7), putting 20 shots on goal. Pete Coriden and Gavin Edgecomb combined on the shutout.
The Olympians, with 14 points going into Saturday’s regular-season finale at Jeffersonville, are one point behind Floyd Central, who is 5-1 in the HHC going into tonight’s game at Madison. East would need a win against Jeffersonville and a Floyd Central loss or tie against Madison to repeat as conference champs.
Jets fall to Hornets
HENRYVILLE — Hauser couldn’t find the net in a 3-0 loss at Henryville on Wednesday.
Will Walters recorded three saves for the Jets (4-8-2).

Jet breaks digs record
HOPE — Andie Clark broke Hauser’s single-season record for digs Wednesday, but the Jets fell undefeated Greensburg 25-20, 25-21, 25-14.
Clark notched 18 digs to give her 569 for the season, three more than Sydney Schoen had in 2017. Clark, who is only a junior, also went over the 1,000 digs mark for her career.
Hannah Johnson pounded 17 kills and one block for Hauser (16-9). Aunaka Wasil recorded 26 assists, and Marnie Schwartzkopf served two aces.
Also for Hauser, Charlie Clark recorded six kills, Schwartzkopf added four kills and one assist and Stephanie Meek and Kenze Bostic each had one assist. Charlie Clark tallied 13 digs, Wasil added 10 digs and one ace, Kyra Meister contributed seven digs and Johnson served one ace.
Franklin ousts Lancers
EDINBURGH — Edinburgh fell to Franklin 25-6, 25-12, 25-12 Wednesday in the first round of the Johnson County Tournament.
Carly Cowan led the Lancers (5-19) with four kills and four digs. Alyssa Funkhouser recorded six assists, Gracie Crawhorn had one block and Callie Hancock and Jessica Walsh each notched four digs.

Panthers move to final
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won three matches in straight sets and another two by default Wednesday in a 5-0 win against Madison in the semifinals of the Jennings Sectional.
The Panthers (5-8) advance to play Greensburg in today’s final.
Owen Law beat Bryce Miller 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Gage Gasper downed Matthew Burkhardt 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Jacob Vogel and Justin Ramey blanked Tucker Whitaker and Alex Wang 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Jansen McDonald at No. 3 singles and Alex Leach and Greyson Jackson at No. 2 doubles won by default.

Cougars sweep Chargers
GREENSBURG — South Decatur edged North Decatur 27-30 to win the Pheidippides Cup for the seventh consecutive year, and the Cougar girls downed the Chargers 24-35 to win the Cup for the first time on Tuesday.
South Decatur’s Trevor Newby won the boys race in 18 minutes, 56 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Tyler Hibberd finished second in 20:05, while Jack Hamilton was third (20:07), Chase Kalli 10th (20:40) and Bradley Walling 11th (20:50).
Kate Hamilton led the Cougar girls with a second-place finish in 22:41. Bridget Nobbe finished third in 23:17, while Emma Gatewood was fifth (23:46) Brayley Sundal sixth (24:34) and Elizabeth Flessner eighth (25:45).
