While some locals have gotten a head start on participating in the general election by casting absentee mail-in ballots, everyone registered in Bartholomew County can now get out and vote.
In-person early voting is currently taking place at the former Carson’s store at FairOaks Mall weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from now until Oct. 30. Additionally, early voting will be held at the same times and location the two Saturdays prior to election day — Oct. 24 and Oct. 31 — and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Nov. 2.
There are good reasons to consider voting early this fall.
Health experts and election officials have urged voters to take advantage of the option, as it will cut down foot traffic on Nov. 3 — helping reduce the possibility of spreading COVID-19.
Those still feeling uneasy of voting in-person, but plan to do so, can take comfort in the safety efforts by local election workers.
Bartholomew County Clerk Jay Phelps and his staff are taking as many precautions as possible to help voters stay safe. For early voting alone, there will be seven poll workers onsite, including an inspector, a judge from each party, a clerk from each party, and two "sanitizers." There will also be markers at the location to help with social distancing.
All you need to vote early is a photo ID, the same as if you plan on voting on Election Day. No excuse is needed to take advantage of voting early in Indiana.
Anyone with any questions can always call the county election’s office at (812) 379-1604 or visit Indianavoters.com.
Come up with a plan and execute it this election season.
