COLUMBUS, Ind. — Early in-person voting in Bartholomew County for the Nov. 3 presidential election continued at a historic pace on Thursday, election officials said.

On Thursday, 770 voters cast ballots at the former Carson’s store at FairOaks Mall, the largest one-day total so far this election, raising the three-day total to 2,214 votes cast, said Bartholomew County Clerk Jay Phelps.

A total of 729 votes were cast on Tuesday and 715 on Wednesday.

Typically, Bartholomew County may not see more than 1,000 votes during the first week of early in-person voting.

Phelps said election officials added a seventh electronic voting machine at the former Carson’s store on Friday due to the higher-than-expected turnout and can add more machines if necessary.

Lines had been averaging 25 to 30 minutes, Phelps said.

“So far, we’ve not had any major issues,” Phelps said. “So far, so good. It’s an incredible response from voters here in Bartholomew County to show up and vote in droves like they have.”
