JACKSON COUNTY — Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement said a man and woman were severely injured Saturday night when they crashed their off-road vehicle into a tree after veering off a road in northwestern Jackson County.
The operator, Braydon Schroeder, 31, of Hendricks County sustained multiple injuries, including a broken leg and arm, and was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Lt. Angela Goldman said.
Schroeder’s sister, Aubree Smith, 28, of Columbus was a passenger on the ORV. She sustained head and spinal trauma and other broken bones and was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Goldman said.
Their conditions were unknown Monday afternoon, Goldman said.
A call came in at 11:18 p.m. Saturday about an ORV wreck on County Road 850N in Freetown.
Goldman said Schroeder was driving at a high rate of speed when for an unknown reason, the ORV left the roadway in a curve and struck a tree.
Goldman said neither Schroeder nor Smith were wearing helmets, and speed and alcohol are contributing factors to the wreck.
