City seeks community input on transportation

The Columbus Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is looking for public input on how the local transportation system can be improved.

To this end, CAMPO will host two virtual community workshops on Oct. 22 at noon and 6 p.m.. The city has also provided a short survey about transportation needs on its website.

CAMPO director Laura Thayer said that the workshops provide feedback that is essential to updating CAMPO’s long-term plans.

“The Community Workshop is a key component in developing the Metropolitan Transportation Plan, and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend,” she said.

The Metropolitan Transportation Plan “provides a long-term vision for all types of travel throughout the area and has a direct influence in identifying needed transportation improvements, including new and reconstructed streets and roads, bus service changes, and bicycle and pedestrian system expansions.”

CAMPO’s Metropolitan Transportation Plan Update will include:

Current and future population and employment forecasts

Transportation safety analysis

Evaluation of the existing transportation network

Identification of future transportation needs

A financial plan for building and maintaining the transportation network

An implementation plan of prioritized projects

The workshops will include discussions about the area’s future, progress since the previous plan and transportation challenges. According to the city’s website, both events will “have the same content.” Registration links for both times are available at www.columbus.in.gov/planning/mtp/.

Both the noon and 6 p.m. presentations will be recorded and posted on the city’s website for those who are unable to attend.
