INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Health today announced that 5,156 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at state and private laboratories. That brings to 224,374 the number of Indiana residents now known to have had the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s dashboard.
A total of 4,512 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of 31 from the previous day. Another 250 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by the state and occurred over multiple days.
To date, 1,853,700 unique individuals have been tested in Indiana, up from 1,837,630 on Tuesday. A total of 3,307,845 tests, including repeat tests for unique individuals, have been reported to the state Department of Health since Feb. 26.
Bartholomew County reported 2,021 positive tests (up 47) with 61 deaths (no change) on Wednesday. The county moved to “orange” status on the state’s COVID-19 spread metrics, signaling increasing community spread of the virus locally.
Surrounding counties reported:
Jackson County: 1,564 positive cases (up 39) with 28 deaths (up two).
Jennings County: 567 positive cases (up nine) with 13 deaths (no change).
Decatur County: 872 positive cases (up 24) with 39 deaths (no change).
Shelby County: 1,329 positive cases (up 28) with 48 deaths (up one).
Johnson County: 4,397 positive cases (up 98) with 158 deaths (no change).
Brown County: 223 positive cases (up 10) with three deaths (no change).

The testing site in Columbus is located in FairOaks Mall at the former JC Penney location.
The Bartholomew Health Department and Windrose Health Network is also offering free COVID-19 testing.
Dates and times may vary, with evening and Saturday appointments available. The phone number is 812-379-1555, Option 1.
Testing will be available to all members of the public regardless of symptoms. Children as young as 2 years of age can be tested with parental consent.
