TEEN NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH, Nov. 1-30. Join Bartholomew County Public Library’s teen engagement specialist Bex for a month of creative writing shenanigans in honor of National Novel Writing Month. SKATE WITH SANTA, noon to 4 p.m., Nov. 28, Hamilton Community Center & Ice Arena, 2501 Lincoln Park Drive, Columbus. Skate with Santa, make crafts and reindeer food, and have loads of fun. COMFORT AND JOY, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic concert for season subscribers (still open for purchasing), 7:30 p.m., Nov. 14, First Christian Church, 531 Fifth St. in downtown Columbus. AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 SONGS, 6 to 6:45 p.m., Nov. 16, online. Take a trip around the globe with the Indianapolis Opera during this recorded event on the Facebook page of the Bartholomew County Public Library. Travel to Poland, Brazil, Iran, and back to the United States to meet some of our most prolific African American composers. FAMILY SKILL BUILDING DISCUSSIONS, 5:30 to 8 p.m., Zoom. Join in to learn from each other and discuss topics that don’t always come up at the dining room table. An evidence-based parent, youth, and family skills-building curriculum that prevents adolescent substance abuse and other behavior problems, strengthens parent/youth communication skills, and increases academic success in youth. MANAGING SOMEONE ELSE’S MONEY: A PANEL DISCUSSION, 2 to 3:30 p.m., Nov. 17, Mill Race Center, 900 Lindsey St., Columbus. If you are serving as a financial caregiver or if you are an older adult who may need to designate someone to assist with money management, the panel of experts will provide you with helpful information regarding the role and responsibilities. This virtual event is free to participants, but registration is necessary. NOVEMBER JOSEPH HART CHAPTER NSDAR MEETING, 3 to 5 p.m., Nov. 19, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. Administration Building, 1200 Central Ave., Columbus. Joseph Hart Chapter NSDAR’s meeting will begin at 3 p.m. Parking is available in the south and west parking lots. Directional signs will help guide attendees to the meeting room. The business meeting will be conducted first. At 4 p.m. students from area schools will share their Good Citizen essays.

WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO? Free online program will guide participants through the creation of their spending and savings plan and provide practical resources for them to use in their own lives. The six-module course includes videos, interactive activities, self-assessments and downloadable spending tracking forms. The program is self-paced and can be completed at the viewer’s convenience. Participants should allow approximately four to six weeks to complete the modules and associated activities. After completion of the course, participants will understand how current money management practices affect financial security, how to establish good financial management practices and new habits that create personal financial security. Best practices that will be explored and discussed include identifying spending leaks, categorizing needs vs. wants, tracking expenses and establishing written financial goals. VET-TO-VET DISCUSSION, 5:10 p.m., Mondays, Mill Race Center, 900 Lindsey St., Columbus. Hour-long, facilitator-led group discussions with others who have served in the military. Attendees are able to share experiences with fellow veterans.

Sports, exercise, wellness

HOOSIER TRAILS 5K RUN/WALK, 10 a.m., Nov. 14, Ceraland Park, 3989 S. County Road 525E, Columbus. Event is to promote physical fitness, adventure and community awareness. Proceeds will benefit Hoosier Trails Council and Boy Scouts of America. Registration is open from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Prizes awarded to the top three male and female finishers. ANNUAL COOKIE WALK FUNDRAISER, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Nov. 21, First United Methodist Church, 618 Eighth St., Columbus. Join in for the annual Cookie Walk where attendees order a platter of locally homemade cookies of various types when they arrive at the church. This year’s cookie platters will be distributed via a drive-thru in the parking lot with minimal in-person contact. Drive up to the Lafayette Street door and a volunteer will share a cookie list with you and then retrieve your order. All orders are cash only. Galleries, museums, exhibits

GALLERY 506, Columbus Indiana Visitors Center, 506 Fifth St., Columbus. The “Balthazar Korab: Photographer of Architecture” exhibit continues in Gallery 506, black and white historic photos of iconic Columbus architecture. “Avenue of the Architects,” an exhibition by Ball State students in architecture and historic preservation began July 1. Open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed on Sundays.

SHARING THE HISTORY AND HERITAGE OF BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, Bartholomew County Historical Society, 524 Third St., Columbus. The exhibit, designed by RedBox of Chicago, includes a detailed timeline with items from the BCHS collection, a hands-on map table that features maps dating back to the early 1800s, a “notable people” wall and a “then and now/did you know?” carousel full of fun facts. HOOSIER ARTIST GALLERY, 45 S. Jefferson St., Nashville. Hoosier Artist Gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and masks are required. The works of cut paper collage artist Ann Woods and watercolorist Bruce Kell are featured during the month of November at Hoosier Artist Gallery. Ann creates vibrant nature-inspired collaged images with colored and handpainted papers. Bruce combines elements of figurative realism and abstraction creating both emotion and whimsy in his watercolor paintings. Information: hoosierartist.net.
