New record: State reports an additional 8,451 Hoosiers diagnosed with COVID-19

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Health today announced that 8,451 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at state and private laboratories. That brings to 244,887 the number of Indiana residents now known to have had the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s dashboard.

A total of 4,638 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of 25 from the previous day. Another 250 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by the state and occurred over multiple days.

To date, 1,917,951 unique individuals have been tested in Indiana, up from 1,893,070 on Friday. A total of 3,482,745 tests, including repeat tests for unique individuals, have been reported to the state Department of Health since Feb. 26.

Bartholomew County reported 2,263 positive tests (up 87) with 61 deaths (no change) on Saturday.

Surrounding counties reported:

  • Jackson County: 1,675 positive cases (up 39) with 29 deaths (no change).
  • Jennings County: 629 positive cases (up 13) with 13 deaths (no change).
  • Decatur County: 997 positive cases (up 23) with 40 deaths (no change).
  • Shelby County: 1,433 positive cases (up 39) with 48 deaths (no change).
  • Johnson County: 4,830 positive cases (up 231) with 160 deaths (no change).
  • Brown County: 242 positive cases (up eight) with three deaths (no change).
