Edinburgh man arrested on multiple charges after traffic stop

Collin Mankin

COLUMBUS, Ind. — An Edinburgh man was arrested on several charges after he was accused of lying about his identity during a traffic stop on Wednesday night.

At approximately 11:50 p.m., CPD officers stopped a vehicle near 18th Street and California Street for a minor violation, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When the officers approached the vehicle, they observed that the driver appeared to be concealing items under his seat. The driver, who was later identified as Collin J. Mankin, 28, initially provided a false name to the officers, Harris said. A short time later they determined his real identity and noted that he had two local warrants for his arrest.

Mankin was taken into custody without further incident. When the officers searched Mankin’s vehicle they located methamphetamine and marijuana, Harris said.

Mankin was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of:

  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Possession of marijuana,
  • False identity statement
  • Driving while suspended with a prior conviction
  • Bartholomew County Bench Warrant
  • Body attachment warrant
