The second winter storm of the week dropped close to 5 inches of snow on Columbus, forcing schools to close and keeping road crews busy battling wind-blown drifts and fresh snowfalls.

1995

State troopers, fresh from a tour in Gary, patrolled city streets to allow all 70 Columbus Police officers to attend an informational meeting with new Chief of Police Brad Latimer.

1970

An Indianapolis weather bureau official explained that low-lying clouds carrying dust from a Texas Panhandle sand storm created the orange glow in the skies over Columbus and most of south central Indiana and rain falling from above the clouds painted car tops with a spotty, rusty red.
