William C. ‘Bill’ Fleetwood

COLUMBUS

William C. “Bill” Fleetwood, affectionately known as Pappy, 88, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Mr. Fleetwood was born March 14, 1932, in Jackson County, Indiana, the loving son of Charles and Altha Fleetwood. On April 9, 1971, Bill married Marty Fleetwood; she survives.

Mr. Fleetwood was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked in Research and Engineering at Cummins Engine Company retiring in 1993 after 35 years of service.

He was involved in dirt track racing for many years. He and his wife ran the concession stands at the Brownstown and North Vernon Speedways and they were the race promoter at the Brownstown Speedway in 1999.

Mr. Fleetwood had a passion for semi-trucks and enjoyed going to his daughter and son-in-law’s trucking company to hang out in the shop with the guys.

Left to cherish the memories of Bill are his wife of 49 years, Marty; daughters, Deborah (Jeffrey) Wilson of Phoenix, Arizona, Cynthia Jane (Grady) Starks of Pasadena, Texas, Pamelette (John) Walker of Taylorsville, Indiana and Kelley (Tim) Waggoner of Columbus; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Fleetwood was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Altha Fleetwood and his brother, Herman David Fleetwood.

A private graveside service will be held in the Garden of Meditation at the Garland Brook Cemetery; the Reverend Matthew Johnson will officiate. Full military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the Fleetwood family.
