Letter: Reader thankful for congressman’s support of Alzheimer’s bill

From: John Rajanayakam

During this holiday season I want to recognize the millions of people who became a caregiver to a loved one with Alzheimer’s.

These caregivers have put their lives on hold to support those they love as they live with the disease.

I have had family members, and friends suffer with this relentless illness, and am aware of the emotional, physical and financial toll this disease takes.

As a volunteer in a support group I have watched loved ones literally fade away, and the emptiness they leave behind.

I was hoping that something more could be done to help families with loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s in their hardship.

A request was made to our elected officials to prioritize this vulnerable population and help them.

Of course, increased research funding is vital, but so too is enhanced care and support services for individuals and their caregivers.

Thankfully, Congressman Greg Pence, R-Ind., is taking an active stance on this issue by supporting the bipartisan Improving HOPE for Alzheimer’s Act (H.R. 1873).

This bill is critical to improving access to resources and enhancing quality of life for those affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Please join me in wishing Greg Pence a very Merry Christmas/ happy holidays and thanking him for ensuring that Alzheimer’s is brought to the forefront of the congressional agenda.

Together, we can help those struggling with this terrible disease and their caregivers.
