Seldon “Sleepy” Manns, 80, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Scott Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 24, 1940 in Jackson, Kentucky, the son of the late Burnice and Ethel (Martin) Manns.

Sleepy graduated from Deputy High School in the Class of 1959. On Dec. 9, 1958, he married Dorothy Jean (Rosser) Manns, who passed away on May 22, 2019. He retired in 1994 from Cummins Engine Company where he worked at the Columbus and Walesboro plants. Sleepy also had served as a union board member for the Cummins Diesel Workers Union for over 20 years. He was the owner and operator of the old Sleepy’s Auto Sales in Austin, Indiana.

Sleepy was a member of the Scaffold Lick Baptist Church and had attended Safe Harbor Church. He enjoyed raising a garden, supplying friends and neighbors with vegetables, fishing and was a huge University of Kentucky fan. Sleepy was a member of the Scott County Democrat Club and loved the community. He formerly served as the President of the Baseball Booster Club and had been a coach for the Little League and Senior League baseball programs.

In addition to his wife and parents, Sleepy was preceded in death by a son, Randy Manns; a daughter, Deborah Brandenburg; a brother, Paul David Manns and six sisters, Lillian Bond, Helen Risk, Kathy Kessler, Neva Howard, Sue Donna Singleton and Irene Maines. Survivors include a son, Ric Manns (Diana) of Scottsburg, Indiana; a daughter, Kelly Chapman of Scottsburg, Indiana; a sister, Dorothy Faye Ramey of Scipio, Indiana; a brother, A.B. Manns (Brenda) of Columbus, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Michele, Patty, Anthony, Jerrica, Wesley, Derrek and Michael and eight great grandchildren, Blake, Emily, Jamie, Brooklyn, Brody, Dalton, Parker and Kharma.

Funeral services will be private and for family only on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Collins Funeral Home with George Ross officiating. Funeral services may be viewed by the public on Collins Funeral Home’s Facebook page at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Visitation: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.

Visitation will be open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines can be observed. Please follow the CDC’s recommendations and guidelines while attending the services and face masks will be required due to the governor’s executive mandate. Interment will be in Lick Branch Cemetery in Jefferson County, Indiana.
