The Bartholomew Area Retired Teachers Association recently reported that their volunteer time for 2020 was 14,697 hours.
The organization, made up of 280 retired teachers in the Bartholomew County area, divides their volunteer hours into those working with youth and with community service.
In 2020, the group went 4,271 with youth and 10,426 in the community.
The national standard for dollar amount value for those hours is $27.20 per hour. The value of the local hours would be $399,758.40.
This number is used by state legislators to help calculate teacher retirement increases.
