LOVELAND, CO
Florence went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. Florence was born to Anna and Carl Meier of Hamilton, OH on January 19, 1927. In her childhood, she attended elementary school and high school in Hamilton, OH. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Hamilton, OH. In high school Florence enjoyed playing the violin. She attended Capital University in Columbus, OH. She transferred to and graduated with honors from Ohio State University in Columbus, OH with a Bachelors degree in Education. Later in life Florence returned to Ball State University in Muncie, IN to earn her Masters degree in Elementary Education.
Florence married the love of her life, Dr, McClain “Mac” Jackson right after college on June 19, 1949. She taught high school home economics in Columbus, OH for three years. After moving to Montpelier, IN, Florence worked as a sixth grade elementary teacher at Montpelier Middle School, while also raising a family and assisting her husband Dr. McClain Jackson with his small and large animal veterinary practice. With their family, they attended the United Methodist Church in Montpelier, IN. Then after moving to Columbus, IN in 1978, Florence continued teaching sixth grade at North Decatur Elementary School in Greensburg, IN. She was an educator for 30 years total.
In 1998, they retired to Loveland, CO to be close to their children and grandchildren. Florence celebrated 60 years of marriage to Mac in 2009. Florence and Mac actively attended Faith Church in Fort Collins, CO. In addition to being devoted to God, her husband and family, she enjoyed babysitting her grandkids, raising miniature schnauzers, caring for many animals, sewing, cooking, gardening, reading and traveling. Florence loved the Lord and was an encourager to her family, friends, and her many students over the years. She lived a quiet life and strived to bring out the best in everyone.
Florence is survived by her two sons; Steven of Loveland, CO, John of Loveland, CO, daughter Susan(Rick Shrout) of Corydon, IN, and daughter-in-law Cathy (Maddy) Jackson of Muncie, IN, three grandsons: David of Redding, CA, Dustin (Ashley) of South Korea, Colton(Linnea) of Farmington, NM, and eight great grandchildren, Aislinn, Ian, Loki, James, Emma Jane, Eila, Jonathan and Benjamin. Florence was preceded in death by her husband Dr. McClain C. Jackson of Loveland, CO and son Robert Thomas Jackson also of Loveland, CO.
Funeral services will be held at Viegut Funeral Home in Loveland, Colorado on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. (MST) with viewing 1 hour prior to services. Interment will take place at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Ft. Collins, immediately following services.
