Letter: Killing criminals isn’t justice

There have now been 172 innocent men exonerated from death rows in this country.

Guilty felons on death row committed terrible crimes, and it is paramount that we honor and remember the victims of those crimes.

But proponents of the death penalty being inflicted upon these criminals are missing the point — It’s not about THEM, it’s about US.

In the words of Bryan Stevenson, founder of Equal Justice Initiative, "The question about the death penalty in America is not whether people deserve to die for crimes they commit, the real question is: Do we deserve to kill?"
