I strongly condemn local elected officials that supported the violent insurrection at our nation’s capital.
As background, remember there was no evidence of election fraud, all 50 states certificated their election results per state laws, several recounts showed no problem, and over 60 courts threw out Trump’s challenges.
Everyone knows this was a free and fair election. Donald Trump lost.
Senator Mike Braun was one of 12 senators claiming they would object to the electoral counts in battleground states.
He knew it was a frivolous challenge, but as Braun has been a 100% Trump supporter, he decided to support the man rather than our Constitution. He is OK with senators throwing out citizens’ votes (from other states) so they can select the winners.
However, after the Capitol riot, Braun, sensing he made a bad move, backed off the Electoral College challenges, although still hinting they had some merit.
Rep. Greg Pence, big brother of Vice President Mike Pence, was one of 139 U.S. Representatives that challenged electoral counts from states other than their own. He knew this was all bogus, but he still chose to disenfranchise legitimate voters by throwing out their votes.
I know Greg is a former Marine. I hear about him mostly when he is supporting a military initiative. The military is a big deal to him.
But what about loyalty, and to whom?
Greg supported the $2,000 stimulus checks, but only after Trump demanded it and after the stimulus bill had already passed. A bit late. Greg voted with Trump against his party.
Then, after Trump vetoed the Defense Authorization Act, Greg was one of only a handful of representatives that did not vote to overturn his veto. This bill funds the military.
Trump vetoed it because it contained a provision allowing for military bases named after Confederate officers to be renamed. So, again, Greg sides with Trump, and against his beloved party and military.
Even after the Capitol riot, where rioters were chanting “Hang Pence” and actively stalking his brother, Greg continued to support the Electoral College challenge.
His brother, Mike, was right in the middle of this mess and had been working hard to sort his way through this minefield to salvage whatever reputation and political future he could. He had indicated the challenges were not going to work and he could not overthrow the election because he had no legal authority to do that.
So Greg, out of 100% loyalty to Trump, knowing the challenge was frivolous and that insurrectionist rioters had tried to kill his brother, continued his challenge, showing blind loyalty to Trump over his brother and country.
I am extremely disappointed in these two elected officials. They directly supported easily provable lies about a fraudulent election in an effort to keep Trump in office, resulting in violent insurrection at our nation’s Capitol.
Is this how they “support and defend” our Constitution?
They should both go away.
