Yvonne M. Johnson McPeek, 83, of Columbus, formerly of Hope, passed away Sunday January 10, 2021 at her home.
Before retirement, Yvonne worked as a social worker for Bartholomew County Family and Children.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hope where she led the Junior Choir and Junior Church, and taught Sunday School for many years.
Yvonne was an avid Hauser sports fan and walked 5 miles a day. She grew up playing many sports, and being left-handed, she received the nickname “Lefty.”
Born on October 6, 1937 in Edinburgh, Yvonne was the daughter of Eddie and Bertha Caldwell Burton. She married James McPeek, and he survives.
Other survivors include daughters, Vicki (Tim) Kirchner of North Vernon and Kim Harris of Taylorsville; grandchildren, Alena (Troy) Jewell, Allen Naldrett, and Ryan Harris; great-grandchildren, Nolan Jewell, Alyse Jewell, Risley Harris, and Shaylynn Harris; and siblings, Linda Wright and Gregory Burton.
Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Arthur Burton, Chester Sinclair, Hank Burton, Margaret Gabbard, Carolyn DeBoise, Wanda Thompson, and Donna Zaring.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home. A private family service will be held with Mike Hankins officiating. Burial will follow at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery. When attending visitation, please wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
