Stepping up
One teacher in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. is getting to know his students unlike any other educator in the school system.
Tony Yeaton, a fourth-grade teacher at Southside Elementary, is BCSC’s first and only teacher to work as both a teacher and bus driver. He runs bus routes before and after teaching classes.
Yeaton is not only making some extra money, and setting himself up for a position when he decides to retire, but he’s also filling a very important need.
Like many other school systems, BCSC has faced a shortage of bus drivers in recent years. BCSC hasn’t been fully staffed in its transportation in eight years.
Yeaton is going above and beyond to help local youth, and should be commended for doing so.
