North boys take 2nd

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North’s boys finished second, and the girls were fifth in the Conference Indiana meet. The meet was held virtually with the Bull Frogs and Southport swimming at Southport, Bloomington North and Bloomington South at Bloomington South and Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South at Vigo County Aquatic Center.

Bloomington North won the boys meet with 478 points to 445 for Columbus North and 340 for Bloomington South. Bloomington South won the girls meet with 434 to 378 for Bloomington North, 355 for Southport, 339 for Terre Haute South, 247 for the Bull Frogs and 206 for Terre Haute North.

Christopher Lee led the Columbus North boys with wins in the 50-yard freestyle (22.02 seconds) and 100 backstroke (52.94). Daniel Utterback took the 100 freestyle (5:12.90), Aidan McAlister captured the 500 freestyle (5:12.90) and those three teamed with David Fry to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:21.80).

Utterback also finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:53.13), and Cole Wheeler took second in the diving competition (369.05). Lee, Pratt Badve, Carlos Fabien and Utterback were second in the 200 medley relay (1:42.81).

Adeline Rush led the Bull Frog girls with a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:04.79). Riddhi Garg took fifth in the 50 freestyle (26.09), and Pagie Maddox was fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:49.24).

East girls 4th in HHC

FLOYDS KNOBS — The Columbus East girls were missing several swimmers because of contact tracing and finished fourth in the Hooiser Hills Conference meet.

Floyd Central won the title with 386 points. Jeffersonville was second with 241, and Seymour edged the Olympians 153-151 for third.

Ellie Proffitt won the 100 butterfly (1:01.32) and finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:20.09) to lead East. Gabbie Meier took second in diving (364.05), Marin Wieneke was third in the 50 freestyle (25.72) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.24) and the Olympians finished third in the 200 medley (1:58.95) and 200 freestyle (1:48.51) relays.

Jennings County finished seventh with 90 points. Reagan Brown took seventh in the 200 IM (2:25.66) to lead the Panthers.

East falls to Owls

SEYMOUR — Columbus East played Seymour almost even after the first quarter, but couldn’t overcome a 13-5 deficit in a 65-56 Hoosier Hills Conference defeat.

Tyler Boyer led the Olympians (1-9, 0-2) with 16 points. Jacob Pierce scored 14, while Ben Major added 11 and Daniel Murphy had nine.

Crusaders split pair

EVANSVILLE — Columbus Christian beat Cannelton 50-36 in the semifinals before falling to host Evansville Christian 81-44 in the title game of the Southern Roads Conference Tournament.

The Crusaders rallied from a 30-27 halftime deficit against Cannelton before outscoring the Bulldogs 23-6 in the second half. Jacob Conrad scored 20 points, while Gabe Ridder added 13.

Columbus Christian (9-8) was within 14-10 after one quarter against Evansville Christian before being outscored 30-8 in the second period. Cody Kiefer led the Crusaders with 15 points.

Stars stop Panthers

BEDFORD — Bedford North Lawrence handed Jennings County its first HHC loss of the season, a 62-52 setback.

Keegan Manowitz led the Panthers (5-6, 1-1) with 20 points, six assists and four steals. Owen Law scored 10 points, and Justin Ramey added eight points.

Braves top Trinity

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran was tied with Brownstown Central 11-11 after one quarter, but the Braves pulled away for a 74-45 win.

Hudson Norton led the Cougars (3-9) with 18 points. Tyler Goecker added 14.

Braves edge Panthers

NORTH VERNON — A day after dropping a 58-57 heartbreaker at Class 3A No. 3 Salem, Jennings County lost another close one, 57-55 at Brownstown Central

Addyson Kent scored 20 points, and Juliann Woodard added 19 to lead the Panthers (11-5), who led 47-40 after three quarters.
