COLUMBUS, INDIANA
Gary Lawson, 72, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 9:42 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2021 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Gary was born May 19, 1948, in Owenton, Kentucky, the loving son of George E. and Frances L. Tolliver Lawson. On November 8, 1972, Gary married Melinda D. Wise; she preceded him in death April 21, 2010.
Gary worked several years at Brands Lumber Company and he retired from Cummins Engine Company after 47 years of service.
Gary was a member of the Kentucky Park Ridge Baptist Church and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He cherished the time he got to spend with his grandchildren and his great-grandson.
Gary is survived by his mother, Frances Lawson of Columbus; son, Cory (Anne) Lawson of Seymour; grandchildren, Kris (Laci) Lawson of Columbus, Kaila McNeill of Franklin, Kassi Lawson of Columbus, Breanne Galyen of Seymour and Blake Galyen of Seymour; great-grandson, Atticus Holloway; siblings, Helen Ward of Columbus, Jerry (Margaret) Lawson of Columbus, Laura Edmonds of Alabama, Ricky Lawson of Columbus, George (Twanette) Lawson of Columbus, Daisy McDonald of Columbus and Cassandra (Bryan) Nicholson of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, George E. Lawson; wife, Melinda; and brothers, Eddie and Donald Lawson.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2021 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. The funeral service will be private with the Reverend Ray Ware officiating.
Due to pandemic restrictions, we are limited to 50 people in our funeral home. We do ask that visitors follow social distancing guidelines and masks are required inside the funeral home.
Gary will be laid to rest next to his wife in Section 87 at Garland Brook Cemetery.
