North falls to Falcons
INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North jumped out to a 12-8 lead after one quarter Saturday, but scored only a combined nine points in the middle two quarters and came away with a 46-33 loss at Perry Meridian.
The teams were tied 18-18 at halftime, but a 13-3 third quarter spurt boosted the Falcons. The Bull Dogs’ leading scorer, Blake Barker, was plagued by foul trouble and finished with a season-low four points.
Reese Harmon and Sam King each scored eight points to lead North (8-3). Cooper Horn added seven.
Panthers rally for win
AURORA — Jennings County trailed 32-22 at halftime before rallying for a 57-47 win at South Dearborn.
Jacob Vogel led the Panthers (6-6) with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Owen Law scored 17 points, and Keegan Manowitz added 12 points and 12 assists.
Edinburgh routs CCL
EDINBURGH — Class A No. 6 Edinburgh jumped out to a 41-14 halftime lead and cruised from there to a 78-41 win against Cambridge City Lincoln.
Caleb Dewey led the Lancers (12-4) with 26 points. Noah Detling added 20.
Miners slow Cougars
HUNTINGBURG — Indiana State recruit Lincoln Hale scored 48 points to lead Class 2A No. 3 Linton to a 97-68 win against South Decatur at Southridge.
Hunter Johnson led the Cougars (5-5) with 19 points. Tyler Sporleder scored 15, while Jacob Scruggs had 14 and Lane Lauderbaugh added 11.
Brown County falls
NASHVILLE — Brown County fell behind 43-16 at halftime and went on to take a 74-37 Western Indiana Conference loss at North Putnam.
Ricky Stanley led the Eagles (1-7, 0-5) with nine points. Travis Ely added eight.
SWIMMING
East boys victorious
JEFFERSONVILLE — Columbus East split a dual meet at Jeffersonville, winning the boys competition 122-51 and dropping the girls event 97-88.
Brady Beyer won the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 56.13 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.77), and Mason Curry took the 100 freestyle (52.67) and 100 backstroke (1:01.37) to lead the Olympian boys. Other winners were Chad Kelly in the 200 individual medley (2:13.62), Mark Mathis in the diving competition (171.50), Dathan Wolf in the 100 butterfly (59.66) and the 200 medley (1:35.85) and 400 freestyle (3:33.44) relays.
The East girls were led by wins from Marin Wieneke in the 200 IM (2:29.53) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.09) and Ellie Proffitt in the 50 freestyle (26.30) and 100 freestyle (56.33). Gabbie Meier took the diving (214.15), and the Olympians captured the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.69.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Jennings tops Trinity
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County pulled out a 55-49 win against Class A No. 1 Trinity Lutheran.
Juliann Woodard led the Panthers (13-6) with 22 points. Brooke Mowery added nine.
Sydney Jaynes scored 20 points to lead the Cougars (16-4). Bailey Tabeling added 15.
Eagles roll vs. Cougars
NASHVILLE — Brown County jumped out to a 41-22 halftime lead and went on to post a 71-47 WIC win against North Putnam.
Abby Fleetwood led the Eagles (6-5, 4-3) with 27 points. Maddy Huff scored 16, and Abigail Watson added 10.
Jackets overcome Lancers
MORRISTOWN — Edinburgh led 24-23 at halftime, but Morristown rallied for a 51-40 Mid-Hoosier Conference win.
Annelise Lollar led the Lancers (6-9, 2-2) with 23 points. Gracie Crawhorn added 11.
Pacers topple Cougars
VEVAY — South Decatur was within 30-28 at halftime, but Switzerland County pulled away for a 59-45 victory.
Lana Bell led the Cougars (5-13) with 18 points. Loryn Pate added 12.
