John E. Battin

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

John E. Battin, 83, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 1:42 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Mr. Battin was born April 27, 1937, in Columbus, Indiana, the loving son of Dallas E. and Thelma M. Steinbarger Battin.

Mr. Battin was U.S. Air Force veteran being honorably discharged April 1, 1959. Mr. Battin retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1996 after 37 years of service. He was a faithful and very active member of Grace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and great-nieces and nephews who were very special to him.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his brother, Jim (Charlotte) Battin of Columbus; nieces, Samantha (John) Harpring of Columbus and Steffany VanEpps of Columbus; and great-nieces and nephews, Jacob Harpring of Tampa, Florida, Luke Harpring of Columbus, Taylor VanEpps of Chicago, Illinois and Emma VanEpps of Columbus.

Mr. Battin was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Thelma Battin.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2021 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street, the Reverend John Armstrong will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Due to pandemic restrictions, we are limited to 50 people the funeral home. We do ask that visitors follow social distancing guidelines and masks are required once inside the funeral home.

Mr. Battin will be laid to rest at the Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
