East boys swimmers set for HHC meet

The Columbus East and Jennings County boys swimmers will look for improved finishes in Saturday’s Hoosier Hills Conference meet.

The Olympians took seventh, and the Panthers were eighth in last year’s HHC meet. Mason Curry, who now is a senior, led East with a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly and a sixth in the 50 freestyle.

This year’s meet is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Floyd Central. The host Highlanders are the favorites to defend their title.

All interested eighth-graders and their parents who are interested in learning about Columbus North and high school football are invited to attend. They should enter Door 1.

East, North baseball in loaded event

The Columbus East and Columbus North baseball teams once again are expected to be among the best in the state this season, and they’ll get to see some of the state’s other top teams the opening week of the season when they play in the Noblesville Invitational.

The Olympians will face Center Grove in the opening round at 10 a.m. April 2, and the Bull Dogs will play Zionsville at 4 p.m. that day. East then would play one more game on April 2 and one on April 3, while North would play two on April 3. Those two teams could meet only in the placement-round.

The tournament also includes Fishers, Franklin, Mt. Vernon and Noblesville.
