Driver arrested on drug-related charges after traffic stop

COLUMBUS, Ind. —  A Knoxville,  Tennessee driver was arrested Tuesday on drug-related charges after a traffic stop involving an allegation of the driver using high beam headlights behind a semi.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Grant Carlson was sitting in the I-65 median, near the 74-mile marker, when he observed a black Nissan Altima driving behind a semi with its headlights on high beam at 11:52 p.m. Tuesday, deputies said.

Carlson initiated a traffic stop at the 72-mile marker. The driver, was identified as Jasmine Carr, 27, Knoxville, Tennessee. Deputy Brandon Sellers and K9 Jari arrived to assist when K9 Jari alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle.

A corner cut baggie containing suspected cocaine was found inside a can in the center console. Deputies also located a plastic bag, stuffed between the vehicle’s battery and firewall, which contained about 28 grams of cocaine, 120 grams of marijuana, 100 prescription pills and 50 pressed pills, deputies said.

Carr was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining a common nuisance, felony obstruction of justice, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, deputies said.

She remains in jail in lieu of $98,500 bond, jail officials said.
