The Columbus North gymnasts didn’t put up the lofty scores Thursday night they did in Tuesday’s win at Seymour, but that may have been a result of coach Betsy Warble giving her girls a break in some of their routines.
Still, the fifth-ranked Bull Dogs amassed their second-highest score of the season and that was more than enough to run away with a 107.95-95.875 win against Owen Valley.
“We made a few changes tonight just to give some bodies a break and put some rest time into the girls,” Warble said. “We took some skills out just to give a couple of the girls a break.”
Junior Emily Moore was at or very close to the top of her game. Her winning all-around score of 38.225 was just under the season-best 38.65 she scored on Tuesday.
Moore, who has the state’s best scores on the beam and floor and the second-best score in the all-around, swept the four individual events. She won the vault (9.3), bars (9.525), beam (9.725) and floor (9.675).
“I would say it’s just like any other meet, but I’m getting better getting closer to sectional and state,” Moore said. “As we go on with more meets, I’m guessing I’ll get better each time until state.”
Junior Madi Edwards finished second in the all-around with a 34.875. She placed second on the bars (8.925) and floor (8.725) and fourth on the beam (8.725).
“We did better last meet, but today was good, and everybody tried their best,” Edwards said. “I think it really showed how we were practicing lately, and it’s really showed in our meets now. Hopefully, we’ll hust keep going higher and higher.”
Abby Jacobi finished third in the all-around with a 34.274. She was second on the beam (9.175) and fourth on the vault 8.55), bars (8.175) and floor (8.375).
Lindsey Mullis made it an all-around sweep of the four places, taking fourth with a 33.8. She finished third on the bars (8.65) and beam (8.775).
“We’d definitely like to see their scores continue to go up right now,” Warble said. “We haven’t peaked yet. We still have skills that we’re putting in and routines that we’re refining. We are still making progress daily in the gym and working toward the end goal, which is March.”
