COLUMBUS, Ind. — Local public schools are set to receive more than $6 million in emergency relief funding for COVID-19.

The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) announced Monday the estimated funds that school districts will receive as part of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (also known as CRRSA or CARES 2.0). Together, allocations for public and private schools across the state total more than $881 million.

The planning allocation for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. is about $5.9 million. For the Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corp., the planning amount is $341,560.64.

BCSC Superintendent Jim Roberts said that the school corporation was pleasantly surprised by the allocation.

“It does appear to be an amount that we can utilize well to put the appropriate resources, whether it be people or time or materials, toward students,” he said.

These amounts come as the second wave of the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER). Under ESSER I, BCSC received almost $1.56 million; Flat Rock-Hawcreek received $84,529.51.

Under ESSER II, schools will submit allowable expenses incurred from March 13, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2023 and then be eligible for reimbursement.
