BCSC returns to full-time in-person learning in phases

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. will return middle school students to full-time in-person learning later this month, but high school students will have to wait until after spring break.

BCSC released a statement Thursday announcing its “phased approach” to returning secondary students to in-person learning.

The school corporation said that the schedule is as follows:

For the week of Feb. 15, all secondary schools will continue the hybrid learning model.

On the week of Feb. 22, middle schools will return to five days a week of in-person learning.

On the week of March 22, high schools will return to five days a week of in-person learning.

According to BCSC’s online calendar, spring break is scheduled for March 10 to 19.

“We understand that this has been a challenging school year for everyone,” the school corporation said in its statement. “Your patience is especially appreciated as we partner with our local COVID-19 Task Force to determine how best to meet the needs of our students while also protecting the health and wellbeing of each member of our community.”

On Jan. 5, BCSC began the new semester with five days of in-person learning for elementary school students and hybrid learning for secondary students. Virtual options remain in place.

The hybrid learning schedule splits students into two groups by last name. Secondary students with surnames A-K attend in person on Monday and Tuesday and do eLearning Wednesday through Friday. Secondary students L-Z do eLearning Monday through Wednesday and attend in person Thursday and Friday.
