COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Arvella Ann Gilpin, 84, of Columbus, passed away at 5:50 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Our Hospice Inpatient Facility. Arvella was born on June 6, 1936 to James Elbert Barnes and Dora Ann England Barnes. She married Nathan “Nate” Gilpin on November 17, 1956.

Arvella was employed at Cosco from 1969 to 1998 retiring after 29 years of service. She was a member and deaconess at 6th Street General Baptist Church. She loved church, being outdoors, tending to her flowers, cooking and sewing. Arvella was a wonderful caretaker, extremely hard working but she cherished most, spending time with family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Don Hacker and Rev. Roger Lee officiating. Calling will be from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to 6th Street General Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Kaye (Ron) McDonald of Columbus, IN Debra Gayle Tungate of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Brandy (Travis) Houser and Joshua (Lacie) McDonald; great grandchildren, Tristan Houser, Ashley Houser, Tyler Houser, Avery Houser, Myles McDonald and Aaron Frodge; Arvella also considered Judy Lee and Timothy Akin children of her own.

Also including many family members in Adair Co. Kentucky.

Arvella was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dora Barnes; husband, Nathan “Nate” Gilpin on April 13, 1991; a brother, James Barnes in 2012.

Funeral Services were entrusted to Jewell ~ Rittman Family Funeral Home in Columbus, Indiana.
