COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a local man on drug charges after he attempted to flee on foot during a traffic stop on Thursday night.

At approximately 9:50 p.m., CPD officers stopped a vehicle near Ninth Street and Chestnut Street, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers spoke to the driver of the vehicle, Travis L. Salsman, 43, of Columbus, and observed moments later that he exited the vehicle and began fleeing on foot. The officers pursued Salsman on foot as he ran behind a nearby residence and jumped a fence. The officers continued to pursue Salsman and apprehended him a short time later, Harris said.

The officers determined that Salsman had a suspended driver’s license and he was placed under arrest. CPD officers conducted a search of Salsman’s vehicle and located marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside, Harris said.

Salsman was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary criminal charges of resisting law enforcement on foot, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
