Community Engagement Center open for shelter

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Community Engagement Center, 1951 McKinley Ave., will extend its hours and be open today from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Columbus Township Trustee Ben Jackson said.

A local church is providing dinner for the clients. Columbus police and Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies have been asked to transport anyone needing assistance with shelter to the engagement center, Jackson said.

Jackson commended Centerstone and Brian Meyer for working with local officials to provide a shelter for the homeless population.

Also commended were the Columbus Department of Public Works and ColumBus (Greg Noel and Cindy Setser) for help with transportation. Jackson also thanked Columbus police and deputies for working to find those outside in the cold weather and get them to shelter.

“We greatly appreciate their concern and help,” he said.
