Deputies arrest semi driver for OWI

Brian Crawford

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies were sent to the northbound lanes of I-65 near the 66 mile marker at 3:03 p.m. Saturday about a possible impaired driver in a semi.

The suspect’s vehicle, a white semi-trailer, was located and nearly missed colliding with Deputy Jon Lanning’s patrol vehicle when it swerved into his lane of travel, deputies said.

A traffic stop was conducted near the 73.5-mile marker and contact was made with the driver identified as Brian Crawford, 49, Hampton, Georgia.

Crawford was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle with a BAC of .15% or more, deputies said.

The semi was towed and Animal Control responded to take custody of canine inside the truck’s cab, deputies said. Crawford was later released from jail in lieu of $5,000 bond, jail officials said.
