Because of declining COVID numbers, more tickets likely will be available at most of next week’s boys basketball sectional games involving area schools than there were for girls basketball sectional games three weeks ago.
For the Bloomington South Sectional, where Columbus North and Columbus East will be playing, each school will have an opportunity to sell 100 tickets. No tickets will be sold at the door.
The gym will be cleared out between games on March 2 and 5. Columbus East plays Bloomington North in the second game March 2, and the winner faces Columbus East in the second game March 5. Fans for schools in those second games will be allowed in the gym 15 minutes before game time, which will be around 8 p.m.
Single-game tickets at all sectional sites are $6. Season tickets will not be available.
Southwestern (Shelby) will allow at least 250 tickets per school to reach 25 percent capacity. Participating schools, including Hauser, should have their tickets by Thursday, and fans will want to buy tickets at the school. Extra tickets left over may be sold at the door.
Doors open 30 minutes before each tipoff. The Jets are scheduled to open against host Southwestern at 8 p.m. March 3.
West Washington, as long as Washington County stays yellow on the state’s COVID dashboard, can have 1,048 fans per game, which is 50 percent capacity. That sectional includes Edinburgh and Trinity Lutheran.
At Seymour, where Jennings County will play, at least 2,000 fans per game will be admitted. If Jackson County, which currently is at the Orange level, moves to Yellow when the latest dashboard is released Wednesday, those numbers could be greater.
Owen Valley, where Brown County will play, is waiting to hear back from the health department on how many fans it can allow. The school is hoping to be able to admit 100 to 200 per team.
Milan, where South Decatur will play, currently can allow 25 percent of its capacity. If Ripley County is at the Yellow level again this week, it can go to 50 percent, which is 500 tickets per school. Milan is asking that only time fans should go to that sectional is when their team is playing.
