NORTH VERNON, INDIANA

Charles Arthur Hammonds, age 79, of North Vernon, passed away Sunday February 21, 2021 at his home. He was born August 19, 1941 in Whitesburg, Kentucky to the late Odell and Pearl (Duff) Hammonds.

Charlie proudly served his country in the US Army. He was a patriotic man who believed in flying the flag outside his home. He retired from Good Year Tire and Rubber Company as a financial analyst and he enjoyed planting flowers and mowing the yard around his house.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday February 26, 2021 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Garland Brook Cemetery with military honors provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard through the funeral home. Charlie is survived by his wife, Audrey; a son Timothy Charles Hammonds of New Orleans, LA and a daughter, Jenny (Ed) Hovatter of Ohio; his step children whom he considered to be his own, Tim (Kattie) Dobson of Columbus, Billy Joe Dobson of North Vernon and Ricky Lee (Stacy) Dobson of Shelbyville. Charlie is also survived by his sisters, Anita (Donnie) Branham of Winchester, KY, Macile (Andrew) Kurocka of Louisiana and Margaret Hammonds of Whitesburg, KY; 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Odell Hammonds; mother Pearl Hammonds; brothers, Jim, Bob, Carl, Sam and Billy Ray Hammonds and a sister, Bea Allen.

With the mandate issued by the state of Indiana limiting gatherings to 50 people, we welcome friends to pay respects while continuing to follow social distancing guidelines.
