Around Town – February 26

Orchids to …

• Dog World owners (Nick and Julie) for going above and beyond handling an unexpected emergency with my dog — driving her to surgical care through a snowstorm.

• Walmart pharmacists and technicians on Whitfield Drive for always being patient and kind to your customers. You are amazing!

• the individuals who paid for our lunch at Montana Mike’s Wednesday afternoon. Your generosity will be paid forward! from Don & Janet.

• Pam Moore, owner of Tangled Waves Hair Salon, celebrating 30 years in the business!

• the recycling employees who stopped by my house on Parkside Drive after hearing I forgot to put it out early enough for them to pick it up!

• the Bartholomew County Health Department staff who professionally processed us through the COVID vaccination in about 20 minutes.

• Erika for taking time to go with me to Indy for my appointment, from Johanna.

• Jewell Rittman for supporting veterans and the Bartholomew County Honor Guard for their dedication to help the families of fallen veterans find closure.

• the 57 senators who voted that the former leader is guilty of inciting insurrection against the U.S. government.

• Steve and Janice for helping us on County Road 450N.

• Baily’s girls for taking us to appointments and helping to deliver groceries and just being there.

• our neighbor on Newton Street for pushing my little red truck out of the snow on Saturday.

• Tonda and Donald for cleaning our sidewalk and driveway, from the Mannings.

• Rick Maley, Lisa Moore, Ryan Kistler, Dexter McIntyre for being such great neighbors by doing a huge snow removal.

• Congressman Greg Pence for always doing the right thing and representing his constituents.

• Dale Nowlin and Mary Kendrick for their letters.

• Tom Dell for standing up for Columbus residents.

• the nice man in the red truck who paid for our lunch going through the drive-thru on Monday at McDonald’s.

• the nice lady who gave me the face mask at Dollar Tree when I forgot mine.

Onions to …

• throwing hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars into the river for a pet project that may never get approval.

• our elected representative for his scheme to defund public schools and divert our tax dollars to pay for rich kids to go to private schools.

• the ridiculous project that will cost taxpayers over and over again.

• those who have to inject racism into every conversation, maybe this just stirs the pot more.

• misrepresenting the facts on education funding.

• houses being way overpriced.

• the local representative who will eventually figure out the hard way that his loyalty to Trump will be rewarded with betrayal.

• the impossible task to unite the country when everything is seen through the lens of racial inequality and the administration’s efforts to fuel that flame.

• businesses and people who don’t realize that a lot of people are not on Facebook!

• anyone willing to spend even one more penny on the overly expensive and utterly ridiculous project which few people here want.

• all the selfish people not taking the pandemic seriously and traveling and going about like there is no problem.

• stating tax cuts for the wealthy is socialism whereas tax cuts for the wealthy is actually capitalism at its worst.

• the elected officials who don’t follow pandemic protocols and infected themselves and put others at risk with their irresponsible behavior.

• those who expect the taxpayer to support those earning poverty wages at profitable companies — they should be paying their employees a living wage.

• the elected official who was “offended” by having to watch the video of the terrorists and murders and brutalization at the Capitol but not offended by what happened in the building.

• those who came right out and said they will not convict the former leader.

• politicians who remained silent to the ex-federal official’s controversial tweets yet are very vocal about a nominee’s Twitter history.
