COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a local man Saturday morning after he was reportedly observed going through vehicles in a parking lot and later was accused of threatening officers and employees of a nearby business.
Shortly before midnight, CPD officers were sent to the area of Sixth and California streets about a man threatening to stab employees who observed the suspect inside of a vehicle that did not belong to him, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
When officers arrived, they located the suspect, Zachary D. Ping, 33, of Columbus who was yelling in the middle of the street, Harris said.
When the officers determined that Ping needed to be taken into custody, he began walking away and refused to stop. Officers utilized an electric stun device and Ping was taken into custody without any further incident, Harris said.
Ping was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the preliminary charges of intimidation (Level 6 Felony), Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor) and Disorderly Conduct (Class B Misdemeanor).
