Canstruction, the annual, competitive, artistic build with canned foods to benefit local food banks, generated 15,496 cans from the teams’ structures and from vote donations, and raised $8,682 from vote dollars, according to organizers.

The cans were donated among local food banks at Love Chapel, Salvation Army and Community Center of Hope to help the hungry.

United Way of Bartholomew County’s recent event was held at FairOaks Mall.

The Starving Artists team was the People’s Choice Award winner for most votes from the public.

A scaled-down version of the event was held because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Three teams were scheduled to build creations, but one team’s cans did not arrive in time to create a planned design. The team was still able to donate the cans to the cause, though.
