COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a local man for operating a vehicle under the influence after he reportedly crashed into another vehicle in the drive-thru of a Columbus fast food restaurant early Sunday morning.
At approximately 1:50 a.m., CPD officers responded to McDonald’s, located at 1880 N. National Road, after a witness observed a crash in the drive-thru and contacted police dispatch, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
When officers arrived, they observed that one of the drivers involved in the crash, later identified as Ramon Hernandez Cruz, 30, of Columbus, attempted to leave in his vehicle. Officers stopped Cruz’s vehicle and observed several empty beer cans inside his truck, Harris said.
Cruz later failed several field sobriety tests and provided a breath sample of .156%. Cruz was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of Operating a Vehicle with a Breath Alcohol Level of .15% or greater, a Class A misdemeanor.
Cruz is the fourth DUI suspect to be arrested in a Columbus restaurant drive-thru in the last two weeks.
